Platform Unity 5 - characteristics and use in the development of 2D computer games

This thesis is aimed to describe the gaming development environment Unity, its accessi-bility to users, market position, advantages and possibilities for creating 2D games. The thesis focuses most on how to use tools to develop 2D games from the very beginning to various options of release them on platform Windows. Thesis describes tools for simulat-ing the physical laws such as gravity and collisions, as well as audio, camera, work with light effects, user interface, tools to create scenes, switching between scenes, as well as creating the game menu. These tools are shown on a project, which serves as a demonstration for how to use them. The thesis also describes the largest competitors in field of game engines, their ad-vantages and disadvantages. Furthermore, the history of Unity, the possibility of selecting a programming language as well as the advantages and disadvantages of their use in Uni-ty. From the available languages was selected language C#, in which projects were devel-oped.
